Secularism and freedom of conscience
We respect freedom of thought, conscience and religion, including the choice not to follow a religion. No belief can justify discrimination.
Freedom, respect and participation: the values that guide life at Naqah.
Naqah is a secular, non-partisan, democratic, anti-fascist, anti-racist, anti-mafia, inclusive and non-discriminatory association. We want to bring together people of different ages, backgrounds, cultures and identities, without asking anyone to hide who they are. Each person's freedom begins with respect for the dignity and rights of others.
At Naqah, we do not have to agree on everything. Debate and critical thinking help us grow, but we share fundamental principles: dignity, freedom, equality, solidarity and democratic participation. Our reference points include the Italian Constitution and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
We respect freedom of thought, conscience and religion, including the choice not to follow a religion. No belief can justify discrimination.
We do not support political parties or campaign for them. But we stand firmly for democracy, human rights, social justice and the rule of law.
We reject authoritarianism, political violence and ideologies of superiority. We believe in democracy and non-violent ways of addressing conflict through listening and dialogue.
We reject racism, xenophobia, homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, sexism, ableism, antisemitism, Islamophobia and all incitement to hatred.
We support LGBTQIA+ people's right to live and express their sexual orientation and gender identity freely, with dignity and respect.
Being anti-mafia also means rejecting patronage, favouritism, corruption and the abuse of power, and choosing transparent, accountable relationships.
Young people help make decisions, propose ideas and lead activities. Working alongside adults brings different experiences together and encourages shared responsibility.
We work to identify and reduce financial, social, cultural, language and physical barriers, within the resources and conditions available to us.
We care for shared spaces and resources: reducing waste, encouraging reuse and promoting environmentally and socially responsible habits.
Our values matter most in everyday actions: how we listen, organise activities, share spaces and deal with difficulties. Openness to different views never means accepting discrimination, harassment or violence.
We welcome ideas, questions and criticism. We encourage young people and adults to take part, without ridicule or exclusion.
Harassment, threats, bullying, humiliation, unwanted physical contact and hate speech have no place in our association.
We invite you to tell us about any participation needs. We discuss them discreetly and explore together what support we can offer.
We respect the privacy of conversations and personal experiences. We handle photos, videos and testimonials with due regard for consent and privacy.
We bring the same principles beyond Casa Naqah: to exchanges, European projects, journeys and the groups we welcome to Sicily. Respect extends to participants, cultures, partner organisations and host communities.
Before each experience, we try to understand participants' needs and discuss practical arrangements, venue accessibility and the support we can realistically provide. We plan our welcome together, case by case, without promising conditions we cannot guarantee.

At SalvaGente 2025 the Questo Corpo group brought these themes to the audience.

Our Code of Ethics and Values provides a shared reference for members, volunteers, collaborators and participants. Approved by the association, it explains the behaviour we encourage, what is not compatible with our community and how we address difficult situations. It is a living document that can evolve through experience and dialogue.
If you have a question about our values, or have experienced or witnessed behaviour that conflicts with our Code of Ethics, you can contact the Board through the association's contact details. We commit to considering reports seriously, fairly and discreetly, in line with our procedures and with respect for everyone involved.
